About Jan Keteleer
From his interests in both classical art and modern / contemporary art, Belgian artist Jan Keteleer (JanKé) works with different styles. Ancient art is one of his interests, but you can also find examples of his work in pop art and impressionism. After working for years in commercial photography, he turned his interest to digital painting. He had numerous exhibitions in Belgium (in Antwerp, Bruges, Lier, Leuven and Ghent), in the U.S. (in Dallas and San Francisco) and in Poland (in Krakow).

Projects such as Sprakeloos, Stille Dialogen and Roots with Taboo brought him fame. He was inspired by the problems of the multicultural society in Belgium, the coexistence of different national and ethnic groups, the problem of the language barrier and the lack of dialogue between the "old" (the native population) and the "new" Belgians (the immigrants). For his work he received the Spes Award in 2004 and was allowed to represent his country in Krakow during a retrospective exhibition of Belgian art.

Many people have already seen his work without realizing it was his.For example, a work of his (size 24m²) hung for years at Brussels Airport and was part of the permanent art collection there. His projects have also been published in stations, streetcars, bus shelters and even on a Virgin plane.

Inspiration
This has been with me since I was a child, it was just as natural for me to draw or photograph everyday activities. My work is a continuation of what it was in the beginning.

My paintings are a record of everyday life, the authenticity, impressions and experiences and emotions that accompany me. They are frames from life and story, in which inspiration can come from anything I encounter and experience at any given moment.

I make paintings with tenderness, I think they provide food for thought. Some are painterly jokes, references to well-known works. I think it is important that they are not forgotten and that the viewer can identify with my work as much as possible.

Technique
I first paint the idea in my head, it takes a while, then I transfer it digitally and finally on panel. I eventually translate what is designed in my head by combining techniques from classical art with a modern approach.

A traditional painter works with brushes and brushes made of hair. I work basically just the same but with digital brushes that, like a traditional brush, come in different thicknesses and materials. So I paint traditionally with modern means.

I find a square format perfect, it has all sides equal, it is elegant and geometrically it fits well in just about any space. For my originals, I usually work in the sizes 40 x 40cm to 60 x 90 cm if once I desire a rectangular format. Reproductions of these works can be obtained from small to several square meters in size and in different materials such as canvas or on alu-dibond.

Various styles because art is not bound

So many art styles have been created throughout history and in each I find my inspiration.
Here are some examples.

Certification
Because my work is sold at international auctions, art lovers can consult the specialized site Artprice.com for it.

Recently, I have also been included in the Akoun La cote des peintres where every certified artist is listed. In the La cote des peintres, each artist is valued at the same standard size (65 x50cm) so that you can compare. My current value is set at 900€. So you can estimate the value of a work smaller or larger than the standard. You can buy the Akoun La cote des peintres 2023-2024 at the better bookstore.
