This painting explores the delicate and turbulent world in the mind of a teenager, a space often filled with silent storms. The girl, painted in profile, stands stiffened with her arms limp, her head bowed and her eyes gently closed. Her posture radiates silence, but at the same time deep self-reflection resonates. Seized by her thoughts, she retreats into an inner realm where emotions and fears quietly prevail. On her head scurry mice - an embodiment of the "mice", or nagging, oppressive thoughts that often plague a young mind struggling with identity and emotions. These small creatures, though seemingly insignificant, represent the overwhelming weight of insecurities and fears. They invade her peace and reflect the incessant whispers of doubt and negativity within. The background reinforces this narrative. Ominous clouds swirl and loom, their dark hues clashing against sharp, menacing highlights and threatening to swallow the girl whole. The atmosphere is heavy, oppressive, almost vivid in its intention to consume her, reflecting the enormity of the emotional struggle she faces. This work is a meditation on loneliness, the unseen struggles of youth and the resilience needed to endure internal chaos. It invites viewers to step into her world, recognise this shared human vulnerability and find empathy in the quiet despair.
